Memorial Ruck – Veterans Association Food Bank

Project Overview

The Veterans Association Food Bank, a registered Canadian charity serving veterans across western Canada, needed a website for their Memorial Ruck, a 5 km ruck march in St. Albert, Alberta, where participants carry food donations in their packs to honour fallen veterans. The goal was to give the event a dedicated home online where people could learn about the ruck, register to participate, and pledge funds to support it.

Beyond a typical event site, the project needed a full registration and fundraising platform. I built the backend on Supabase, which handles participant accounts, logins, registrations, and fundraising data, and integrated Stripe for secure online payments for registrations and pledges. Participants can register individually or as a team, track their fundraising from a personal dashboard, and appear on live leaderboards that encourage friendly competition. Supporters can pledge to a specific rucker or to the event overall, with every dollar going toward the Food Bank’s $100,000 fundraising goal.

I designed the site to reflect the meaning behind the event: a bold, respectful look built around the charity’s colours, with clear calls to action guiding visitors toward registering, sponsoring a kilometre, or supporting a rucker. Keystatic was integrated so the organization’s staff can update event details, sponsors, and the veterans being honoured each year without needing a developer.
